Volunteer: Saddle Up For Safety

Are you ready to experience the excitement of the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships in Charleston, West Virginia? May 14-19 will be here before we know it and there’s so many ways and reasons to get involved.

The USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships aren’t just about crossing the finish line this May—it's about the incredible journey we take together as a community, now and for the next five years that the races will be hosted in Charleston. You can be a vital part of that journey by volunteering to be a Course Marshal through the Vandalia Wealth Volunteer Program.

Volunteering isn't just about giving your time; it's about making a meaningful impact. I’ve already signed up to volunteer and below are a couple reasons you should consider being part of the volunteer experience during race week.

1. Support the Cycling Community.

Behind every cyclist whizzing past the finish line, there's a team of dedicated volunteers ensuring everything runs smoothly. By volunteering, you become an essential part of the support system that makes these events possible. Your contribution directly impacts the success and safety of the race.

2. Experience the Thrill.

Sure, you might not be the one pedaling the course, but being on the sidelines offers its own kind of excitement. From cheering on participants to assisting in ensuring a safe and fun event for cyclists and spectators alike, you'll be immersed in the energy and enthusiasm of the race. Who knows, you might even catch the cycling bug and join in next time!

3. Build Connections.

You'll have the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals, forge new friendships, and network with fellow volunteers and participants. It's a chance to connect with your community in a meaningful way. I’ve made so many friends and close connections from the time I’ve spent volunteering in my community.

4. Make a Difference.

Beyond the adrenaline rush and camaraderie, volunteering is ultimately about making a difference. Whether you're helping folks cross the street or keeping the crowd in tow as the zooming cyclists pass by, your role ensures that every participant has a memorable and safe experience. Your contribution is invaluable to ensuring a safe environment for the race.

5. You Get a Whistle.

Yes, there's definitely a unique sense of fulfillment that comes from giving back to your community. Knowing that you played a part in the success of the race can leave you with a warm glow that lasts long after race week. Volunteering isn't just about what you do—it's about how it makes you feel. And it feels even better when you can get an official volunteer t-shirt, special merch, food and a whistle (for safety)!

So, are you ready to gear up and be part of something special in our community? Join me and West Virginia Pedal Pals as we pedal together and give a safe and warm welcome to the cyclists visiting Charleston for the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships. Sign-up to volunteer for the Vandalia Wealth Volunteer Program and let's have some fun! Learn more about the schedule of events during race week here.
