Ride with WV Pedal Pals
West Virginia Pedal Pal group rides are free, fun, and family-friendly! Learn more about what it’s like and hope you can join us on our next ride.
What to expect
Besides a fun time, below is a list of what to expect when you join in on a group ride or bike tour with West Virginia Pedal Pals.
Meeting Location: Check the ride event page for the address and details for where the ride will begin. If appropriate, car parking and directions will be detailed as best as possible.
Time: Rides will have a “meeting time” and “start time.” Please arrive in the 30-minute window between “meeting time” and “start time” to allow for a smooth check-in process.
Check-In: Prior to the ride, sign-up on the MemberPlus App on your smartphone (you can sign-up for a free membership here). When you arrive, a Community Captain will check you in!
Distance: We ride anywhere from 4 to 5-miles on a typical group ride. Rides last anywhere between 1 to 1.5 hours. Estimated mileage and time will be posted in the event page.
Route: For the safety of our group, we follow safe road biking practices. When possible, the route will be shared on the event page prior to the ride. Routes are thoughtfully designed and avoid high traffic roadways when possible and try to stay on flat roads.
Group Riding: Please ride in a 2 x 2 formation, be sure to communicate verbally, and use hand signals at intersections. Stay alert and always be cautious of moving and parked vehicles, pedestrians, other cyclists, and road conditions during the ride.
Frequent Stops: For bike tours, anticipate frequent, planned stops as we learn about the rich history and culture of our community. You will be alerted on the location of the next stop and a safe space to pull-in. These stops are typically 3-5 minutes and are a great time to get a sip of water while you listen to the guide.
Cancellations: When you sign-up in advance with the MemberPlus App you will be updated through the app if there are any cancellations due to inclement weather or unexpected emergencies.
